Rating: ★★★★☆

The first time I played Shiver: Vanishing Hitchhiker, I played the regular version and was impressed with the game then. I was offered the opportunity to play it again, except this time I was given the collector’s edition, and I have to say that it was still great the second time around.

Shiver: Vanishing Hitchhiker Collector’s Edition Storyline

The game opens with you driving along a rainy highway and thinking about a picture of you as a child standing next to a little girt holding a teddy bear. The scene then changes to show you picking up a female hitchhiker. You sense she is in trouble, but you leave her be. It isn’t until you are driving away after you drop her off at a creepy little town that you notice she left her teddy bear in your car. It’s then that you realize she’s the girl from the photo! Quickly, you return to the town. You must find her even if that means walking around that creepy town…

Shockwave Coupon Code – Get 12% off Your Next Game

I received an email a few days ago from Shockwave announcing that for the month of November, you can take 12% off any Shockwave game you purchase from their game store. Just use the Shockwave coupon code: SHOCKSW12. The code is good until November 30, 2011 and excludes backup CDs and subscriptions.

I’m going to be upfront and say that I have not had a chance to play the games at Shockwave yet. In fact, I didn’t know this game company existed until a few months ago when I started looking for a way to support my gaming addiction. It costs money to support my daily casual gaming habit. I figured, since I’m playing these games anyway, I might as well earn a few Gil to put in the war chest.

I took a look at Shockwave’s offering and found five casual games I think might be fun to play.

Big Fish Games recently announced they will be releasing a new hidden object adventure game called Mystery Case Files: Escape from Ravenhearst. Avid casual gamers who love the Mystery Case Files franchise and have been anxiously awaiting the release of a new game will be returning to Ravenhearst for a third time, strangely enough. It seems Ravenhearst Manor is stirring up some trouble again.

In a case that has authorities baffled, Blackpool residents are turning up missing and all signs point to the ruins of Ravenhearst Manor.

Most believed that the terror within perished when the estate went up in flames. Is it possible evil still lurks within? It’s up to you, Master Detective, to return to Blackpool, England and unravel the mystery that still haunts this quiet town. [read post]

The very first hidden object game I played was Mystery Case Files: Huntsville. I got a Big Fish Game coupon for it when I purchased books from Borders Books. This was years before they went bankrupt. Mystery Case Files is one of my favorite casual games series because the developers put a lot of effort in creating a truly interactive hidden object adventure.

I’m excited they are finally releasing a new game. This gives me an excuse to replay all the old games so I can review them for the blog. Here’s a list of them just in case you want to get caught up before Mystery Case Files Escape from Ravenhearst comes out. The first four games are straight hidden object games. It isn’t until you get to Mystery Case Files Return to Ravenhearst that the developers start adding adventure elements to the games.
